Rubeho Forest Partridge

Xenoperdix obscuratus

DEL AL

Rubeho Forest Partridge Xenoperdix obscuratus was formerly split from Udzungwa Forest Partridge X. udzungwensis on the basis of morphological differences. But minimal mtDNA divergence and purported heterotaxon playback responses would better support conspecific treatment (Dickinson & Remsen 2013; del Hoyo & Collar 2014; HBW/BirdLife; Stevenso & Fanshawe; WGAC 117).

Siamese Partridge

Arborophila diversa

DEL AL

Siamese Partridge Arborophila diversa was formerly split from Chestnut-headed Partridge Arborophila cambodiana. But recognition of the intermediate ssp. chandamonyi indicates clinality and treatment as a single species (Eames et al. 2002; del Hoyo & Collar 2014; HBW/BirdLife; WGAC 118).

Velasquez's Woodpecker

Melanerpes santacruzi

DEL

AL

Velasquez's Woodpecker Melanerpes santacruzi (including all ssp. except for nominate aurifrons) was previously split from Golden-fronted Woodpecker based on mtDNA divergence (García-Trejo et al. 2009). DEL AL

Red-throated Parakeet Aratinga rubritorquis was formerly split from A. holochlorus (Forshaw 2010; Martínez Gómez et al. 2017; HBW/BirdLife). Re-lump with Green Parakeet Psittacara holochlorus based on shallow mtDNA and UCE divergence, inconsistency of the presence, size, and shape of the red throat patch, apparent hybridization including mixed pairs, and absence of distinct vocal differences (Smith et al. 2022; NACC 2023-A-14).

Double-collared Crescentchest

Melanopareia bitorquata

DEL AL

Double-collared Crescentchest Melanopareia bitorquata was formerly split from Collared Crescentchest M. torquata (Lopes & Gonzaga 2016). Reichenow's Batis

Batis reichenowi

DEL AL

Reichenow's Batis Batis reichenowi was formerly split from B. mixta (Louette 2006). But it is nested within B. mixta in the mtDNA molecular phylogeny of Fjeldså et al. (2006), despite described morphological differences in female plumage. Treat as a subspecies of B. mixta pending vocal or additional genomic evidence to the contrary (WGAC 510).

Providencia Vireo

Vireo approximans

DEL AL

Providencia Vireo Vireo approximans is lumped with Mangrove Vireo Vireo pallens based on morphology and vocalizations. Erroneously assigned to Vireo crassirostris by the AOU for years until corrected in 2019 (NACC 2019-C-11; del Hoyo & Collar 2016; HBW/BirdLife).
